Space Rich

As I mentioned in my previous post I work away from home with extremely limited Wi-Fi (I work on an oil rig so everything is limited actually but ce la vie) point being I need pick and choose my game play depending on how my connection is behaving at the time, if I want to PVP then rule of thumb is keep it cheap and not to be of any importance to the gang i.e. FC, Logi, Scout etc.

Last night I decided to join a Spectre Fleet which I would recommend to anyone looking to try their hand at PVP, even for those experienced in the art of making ships go boom it’s a chance to fly things you may not usually get the opportunity to and in decent numbers.

It’s not my place to go into detail because at the end of the day I was only along for the ride but it’s safe say it was a successful fleet, I believe it was somewhere in the region of 17b isk worth of kills (50+ Interceptors dish out an impressive amount of damage) and we had excellent hunters who were on fire for the duration of the roam.

At the end of the fleet I opened up Zkill to admire my new additions (admit it, we all do it) and my recent thumbnails were littered with ships and pods valued in the billions, it still astonishes me that people can risk flying these things in a place where essentially anything goes and it got me thinking about life as a low sec pirate and the extra effort required to make decent isk.

As I said previously the life of a pirate is not the commitment it used to be thanks to security tags but they aren’t exactly cheap so whether you decide to go full flashy or continually top up your security standing its going to cost money and that is where we differ from our brothers and sisters in null sec, If you’re willing to put the time in you can make a ton of isk in null especially in Sov with system upgrades etc. and as a result can afford to fly or more importantly afford to lose such valuable assets.

I’m not going to pretend to know the ins and outs of ratting in Sov space because I simply don’t know enough about it but I do know the rewards are vastly superior to anything you’ll find in low sec, in fact the most I’ve ever made from a low sec site was little over 1b isk and that was by accident.

I was probing down a Legion in Auner (I think) and as I was in warp to him he decided to leave system but not before firing a volley of abuse in local so I cloaked up and waited to see if he came back, I’m not the most patient guy in the world so I ended up just finishing the site for him which ended up being a 6/10 with some rather tasty loot.

For the most part low sec has always been my home and I’ve made peace with the fact I will never be “space rich”, well certainly not in comparison with the guys in Sov space but while I may have less money than they do I also have less rules to follow, less blue’s to play nice with and I get to test myself against some of the best PVP’ers in the game.

That’s just my opinion you must decide what’s best for you, do you want to be space rich and be a cog in the machine or do you want to test yourself against the villains…………………if it’s the latter I’ll maybe see you around
