Pixels matter….
I contemplated writing this because my EVE buddy and CEO Rozo Duprime has covered this particular experience in his own Guru Blog but I decided to give my take on it anyway
For me Eve is an escape from the groundhog of everyday life and as a bit of a sci-fi geek what better way to do it than fly spaceships destroying other geeks spaceships, I mean it’s win win.
(Isn’t it?)
The answer apparently is no, for some people Internet spaceships is a serious thing!
If you’ve been playing EVE long enough you’ll have experienced an FC lose their sh.t or local has exploded with the kind of language a drunken touretts teenager would roll their eyes at but at what point does it become too much?
We experienced such an episode the other night and while I admit the language was pretty tame the ferocity and speed the nonsense poured into local (just one player BTW) was incredible, I’m not talking about a few “up yours” it was constant, incoherent at times and completely filled local within 10 seconds….. it was quite impressive in it’s own wee way actually.
We of course had a giggle and pulled the thread a bit more to ramp up the melt down this particular chap was having but in hindsight what if this fellow gamer was indeed having an episode of some sorts, I mean heaven forbid this persons game rage subsequently effected those around them in the real world but does that mean we as gamers need to start thinking of people’s feelings?
The day the answer becomes yes then online PVP is over!
I’ve been in and out of EVE since 09 and can honestly say I’ve never raged in local over a loss, in fact if I’ve been particularly impressed I’ve even sent private messages congratulating them on their kill because for me EVE is a game….
A unique game for sure but a game nonetheless
The point of this post…..
I understand that losing a ship could mean hours of grind has literally popped before your very eyes, sometimes frustration gets the better of you, you want to vent and I get that and who better to vent at than the person responsible.
My advice for what its worth, remember this is not real, this is not life changing, the day EVE has you foaming at the mouth then that’s the day you should un-sub and try something new.
I kinda hope you don’t though because we pirates do love those salty tears…………………..
