My First Blog

I’ve been in and out of EVE since 2009, the last time I gave up the game “for good” was in 2016 but as we all know EVE has a way of pulling you back in.

Most of my experience within New Eden has been spent in and around low sec living the life of one of them horrible pirates, those villains who camp the high sec entry points with no PVP skills only a fast-locking ship followed by a barrage of DPS and a LOL in local (that’s the perception anyway)

While gate camping is a thing among us low sec dwellers for most it is not our “go to” play style but something to fall back on if things are quiet or we just want to chill, most of the time we’re out and about looking for targets preferably ones that shoot back but Hey this is EVE and I’m a pirate so if I see your Cyno Venture apologies but Yarrr!

The life of a pirate has changed over the years and not always for the better in my humble opinion, making the choice to go -10 was once a commitment simply because reversing that decision was as tedious as a week in jail “cough” (so I’ve heard).. nowadays you can fly to your local Concord station with a few tags, a fist full of isk and Bob’s your uncle your back in High Sec albeit with kill rights which generally isn’t much of an issue anyway.

I work away from home a lot, I’m away now as it happens where my game play is restricted to a small laptop and very questionable Wi-Fi so during these periods I tend to focus on my ISK making alts but we pirates often feel the need to go kill something, anything just a desire to remove someone from their ship and last night I felt such a desire.

Local had a few familiar faces so I undocked and checked D-Scan…..nothing, not wanting to hang around I decided to dust down the Legion and go for a jolly around the local area.

6 jumps in I see a Loki on scan, only 3 of us in local so I decide to do a quick zkill search to gain a bit of intel and I find him, he has over 6000 kills and nearly 2000 losses with a solo kill rate of 48%! hmmm this guy might be a handful.. While I wouldn’t call myself risk averse (it’s only pixels after all) I’m also not reckless! I’m thinking of his ship type which is superior to mine, he is clearly experienced enough to see me coming and set himself up accordingly and I’m very aware my Wi-Fi could drop or lag me out at any time so I decide to continue on my planned route which is only a further 5 jumps and maybe try my luck on the way back.

I reach the end of my route and all is quiet so I head back to the system with the Loki with the mindset that I’ll try my luck, I pop my pills as I jump the gate…. Meh the system is empty, cursing my decision not to have a go earlier I head home.

I dock up and realise I still have about 30 mins of my booster to run and not wanting to waste it I jump into my trusty Rifter and head towards FW space, halfway there I encounter an Exequror and a Gnosis clearly camping my out gate (I’ll take note of that for my return journey)

Jumping into Lulm I see several ships in local, a Fleet Firetail is the only thing I could realistically have a go at so I warp to a safe and starting scanning the sites when I spot a message in local “Rifter come to Bosboger for a glorious 1v1”, I opened up the character info and seen they were a member of Black Rebel Rifter Club so without hesitation I responded “sure”

I’ve had several encounters with members of R1FTA, I think I’ve came out on top each time but I have tons of respect for these guys and I know whatever goes down this will be a fair fight so I warp to a safe and await my opponent to appear on D-Scan.

After a minute or so I see the Rifter on scan and he’s at the sun…. oooft I hate fighting at the sun but I decided to go for it, as I land there is indeed a R1FTA Rifter 50k from me but it’ s not the pilot I’m expecting so fearing a slow death to a kiter I immediately warp to a novice site to see if he follows me in and in true -10 fashion he does.

I should have checked his guns before warping off therefore I’m still guessing he’s kite fit so with that in mind I know I need to be on the ball before he has a chance to pull range, I load Hail and pre-heat everything and hope high damage ammo and my booster is enough to get the job done quickly.

It’s over in seconds so much so I surprised myself, in fact I think it surprised him too as he messaged WOW GF in local… he was indeed kite fit with no buffer of any kind, I think in his haste to pull range he may have flown towards me and subsequently took full damage.

I returned his GF and headed to the next system where my Wi-Fi started playing up so I decided to call it a night.

Ok so why Blog about killing a T1 frigate you might ask and to that I would say it’s not about the kill its about making your own content when things are quiet or when you just have time for a quick roam around the block, EVE isn’t always full of fleets and billions worth of ISK being destroyed in one sitting. Sometimes its just about a person unwinding after a days work and watching pixels go pop.
