PVP in EVE is a complicated beast for sure, be it 1v1 or small to medium gang they all have a story to tell.
Each pilot has a role to play and even a relatively minor mistake can make the difference to the outcome.
Obviously i’m not refering to null sec battles because with no disrespect intended the average (and i cringe at the term) F1 monkey making an arse of it isn’t going to change the outcome of that particular battle.
As a solo pilot or in small’ish gang not every engagement can be foreseen, the other night I was out in my Legion and scanned down an Ishtar and immediatley thought I’m having a bit of that (who wouldn’t) and engaged him.
I was feeling comfortable orbiting while throwing HAMS his way when a Curse appeared (I’m guessing an alt), of all the ships to come at me a curse was probably the one I least wanted to see on my overview but it is what it is.
I was active armour so he/she shut me down fairly quickly and as they were using pimped out Nuets they were well out of my effective range so I just had to take the pain and shrug the shoulders, in this case there isn’t anything I would have done differently I was beaten by tactics.

The previous night we were camping the high sec gate and our CEO was sitting at range, he ended being tackled by a dual boxer (I think) Macherial/ Malediction combo and as he was being hammered by the Mach (which i think is the best looking BS in game btw … just sayin) the rest of us moved to assist.
Unfortunately he wasn’t within warp range so we all did our thing to manouver ourselves into better positions, most warped off to a ping and returned but no not me I decided to take my Ashimmu and burn towards him, I mean looking back who burns towards a Macherial….

In my own defence a rather large quantity of Rum had passed my lips that night (how many ships have been lost due to alcolhol) but none the less it was a silly loss that annoyed me somewhat.
The same night we were out in a few cruisers (I was in a Navy Exeq) and got into a skirmish with a Khizriel, as i was calling out the engagement in Discord a Lachsis and 2 Interceptors landed on grid so I let told my corp mates not to bother as I was screwed….
About 20 seconds later I realised I was actually getting the better of the battlecruiser and called for my corp mates to get involved, unfortunatley I popped just as my back up arrived and the Khiz warped off in mid structure…. I cursed myself for telling them to hold!

Decisions/Decisions – Sometimes you can look back on a fight and recognise exactly where you went wrong and hopefully remember for next time, other times you need to hold your hands up.
Looking at the examples I’ve mentioned what would I do differently…
The Ishtar – Probably nothing, If the same thing happened tomorrow I’d probaly still go for it.
The Khizriel – Yeah I would call my corp mates in and went balls out.
The Macherial – A drunk Scotsman will fight anyone so Ce la Ve
No matter how long you’ve been playing, EVE is one massive learning curve it’s up to you whether you learn the lesson.
